Instructions

Steps

  1. Boil a large pot of water and add breadfruit. Cook for about 30 minutes until tender.
  2. Once cooked, remove the breadfruit from the water and let it cool slightly.
  3. With a sharp knife, slice the breadfruit into thin rounds as needed.
  4. Peel off the skin and core (the core can be left if preferred).
  5. Gently shape each slice into a taco shell and secure with two toothpicks.
  6. Place the shaped shells on a plate and repeat for the remaining slices.
  7. Heat oil in a frying pan for deep frying. Use tongs to carefully submerge the breadfruit shells in the hot oil.
  8. Cook until golden brown, guiding them with tongs as necessary. You can leave the toothpicks in during frying or remove them if using larger ones.
  9. Once cooked, place the shells on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  10. Fill each taco shell with your choice of filling; I recommend codfish and lettuce.
