Instructions
Prepare the Batter
8 minIn a mixing bowl, thoroughly combine 200g chickpea flour, 600ml water, and season with salt and pepper to your taste. Use a whisk to blend the mixture until it achieves a smooth, lump-free consistency. To enhance the flavors, let this batter rest for at least 4 hours at room temperature; this allows the chickpea flour to hydrate properly, resulting in a better texture.
Preheat the Oven
10 minSet your oven to preheat at 220°C (430°F) to prepare for baking. While it heats, pour 4 tablespoons olive oil into a round baking dish, ensuring it coats the bottom evenly. Place the dish in the oven to warm the oil, which will help create a crispy edge on the flatbread.
Bake the Fainá
~4 hrOnce the oven and oil are hot, carefully pour the rested batter into the sizzling oil in the baking dish. Bake for 25-30 minutes, keeping an eye on it; the fainá is ready when the top turns a beautiful golden brown and the edges appear crisp. You may want to check it around the 20-minute mark to ensure it doesn't overcook.
Serve the Fainá
5 minRemove the fainá from the oven and allow it to cool for a minute or two before slicing. Cut into wedges or squares and serve warm, optionally sprinkling additional black pepper on top for extra flavor. This flatbread is delightful on its own or as a side with various dips.
