Instructions
Steps
- Begin by breaking the knafeh into smaller pieces in a bowl. Add melted butter and a pinch of yellow food coloring, then mix thoroughly with your hands.
- In another bowl, combine milk, cream cheese, sugar, and cornflour until well blended. Heat this mixture over medium flame until it thickens, then remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly. Stir in mozzarella until well combined.
- In a baking dish, layer half of the knafeh mixture, pressing it down to form an even base. Spread the cheese mixture on top and smooth it out evenly. Cover with the remaining knafeh, pressing gently to secure.
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F) and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
- While the knafeh bakes, prepare the syrup by boiling water and dissolving sugar in it for about 4-5 minutes, stirring until slightly thickened. Add lemon juice and rose water and mix well.
- Once the knafeh is out of the oven, immediately pour the syrup over it evenly. Serve warm and enjoy!
